Welcome to Chess Club! 

Whether you have never touched a chess piece before or are a seasoned veteran, our club is open to students of all skill levels. Chess is a fantastic way to sharpen your critical thinking, build problem-solving skills, and develop strategy—all in a fun and supportive environment. Beginners will learn the fundamentals and basic tactics from scratch, while experienced players can sharpen their skills through targeted lessons and challenging matches.

 Each session includes quick mini-lessons, open play, and friendly challenges with peers across all grade levels. All equipment is provided—just bring your enthusiasm and readiness to play! Drop in during our next meeting or contact cbooker@fusd1.org to get started.

Join the MEMS Culinary Team & FCCLA Foods Club!

    Are you ready to level up your cooking skills, master kitchen fundamentals, and step into the competitive culinary arena? The MEMS Foods Club is building a team to represent our school in Arizona Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (AZ FCCLA) competitive events! Through hands-on kitchen training, team-building, and real-world leadership development, members will learn knife safety, recipe execution, menu planning, and plating techniques. Beyond cooking, club members will hone critical life skills like communication, time management, and creative problem-solving.

    As part of AZ FCCLA, members will have the chance to train for Level 1 (Grade 8 & under) Competitive Events. Qualified competitors can advance from local showcases to the Arizona State Leadership Conference and compete for top honors. Who should join? Anyone with a passion for food, teamwork, and taking on a challenge. No advanced cooking experience required, just bring your appetite to learn and compete!

Take part in the Gardening Club for a calm, green oriented space to recharge and grow. We hope to bring to you the knowledge and excitement of nurturing growth and change around plants and green spaces at MEMS! Together, we’ll get our hands dirty while exploring projects in and around the greenhouse, learning about the unique Flagstaff climate and its natural flora, and discovering sustainable practices that connect us to the environment. This club is all about growth—both in the garden and ourselves—as we cultivate renewal, mindfulness, and a deeper appreciation for the green all around us.

What is the Inclusion Club?

A space for students to come together and make Mount Elden Middle School a safer place for all.

What will you be doing at the Inclusion Club?

Students point out important causes in the community of MEMS and Flagstaff. They strategize ways to bring awareness and give back to the community. Students work on creating posters, flyers, and educational presentations with games to be shared with the entire school. Last year, our students came up with a scrambled phase and hid each letter around the school. The Inclusion club held a school-wide search to unscramble the phrase!

NJHS stands for National Junior Honors Society which is an honor society for high achieving students who would like to give back to the community by organizing and participating in various projects here at school and in the community. Members for this school year were inducted either at the end of their sixth or seventh grade years. We meet most Thursdays in room 176. 

ARTICLE IX: SELECTION OF MEMBERS

Section 1. Membership in the local chapter is an honor bestowed upon a student. Selection for membership is by a faculty council and is based on outstanding scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. Once selected, members have the responsibility to continue to demonstrate these qualities. 

Section 4. Candidates become members when inducted at a special ceremony.  

Section 5. Members who are in good standing are eligible to apply and compete in the National Junior Honor Society Outstanding Achievement Awards program.  

Section 6. An NJHS member who transfers to another school and brings a letter from the principal or chapter adviser to the new school adviser shall be accepted automatically as a member in the new school’s chapter. Transfer members must meet the new chapter’s standards within one semester in order to retain membership. 

ARTICLE VIII: MEMBERSHIP

Section 1. To be eligible for membership the candidate must be a member of those classes (second semester sixth grade, seventh grade, eighth grade, or ninth grade) designated as eligible in the chapter bylaws. (Ninth graders in a 9–12 school may not be inducted into either NJHS or NHS, nor can that school operate a chapter of NJHS as per these policies and those of the National Honor Society.) Candidates must have been in attendance at the school the equivalent of one semester. 

Section 2. The national minimum standard for scholarship shall be a cumulative scholastic average of at least 85%, B, or 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or the equivalent standard of excellence. Candidates shall then be evaluated on the basis of service, leadership, character, and citizenship. 

Section 3. The selection of each member to the chapter shall be by a majority vote of the faculty council. Prior to notification of any candidates, the chapter adviser shall review with the principal the results of the faculty council’s deliberations. 

ARTICLE XI: CHAPTER OFFICERS 

Section 1. The officers of the chapter, their duties, and the method of their election shall be determined by the members of the chapter, approved by the faculty council and the principal, and described in the chapter bylaws.  

Section 2. New officers shall be installed at a special ceremony.

ARTICLE XIII: MEETINGS 

Section 1. Each chapter shall have regular meetings during the school year on days designated by the executive committee and in accordance with school policy and regulations.  

Section 2. The regularity of the meetings (e.g., weekly, monthly, bimonthly) shall be designated in the chapter bylaws.  

Section 3. The chapter president or other designated student leader may call special meetings approved by the executive committee.  

Section 4. Chapters shall conduct meetings according to Robert’s Rules of Order in all points not expressly provided for in this constitution or the chapter bylaws.  

ARTICLE XIV: ACTIVITIES 

Section 1. Each chapter shall determine one or more service projects for each year.  

Section 2. All members shall regularly participate in these projects.  

Section 3. These projects shall have the following characteristics: Fulfill a need within the school or community; have the support of the administration and the faculty; be appropriate and educationally defensible; be well planned, organized, and executed.  

Section 4. Each member shall have the responsibility for choosing and participating in an individual service project that reflects their particular talents and interests. This is in addition to the chapter projects to which all members contribute. 

Section 5. Each chapter shall publicize its projects in a positive manner.

The Student Council is the voice of the student body and plays a key role in shaping school culture at MEMS. From planning dances and variety shows to organizing school-wide assemblies and spirit events, StuCo helps create a fun, inclusive, and engaging environment for all students.

Being part of StuCo is a great opportunity to develop leadership skills, collaborate with peers, and make a meaningful impact on campus life.

Teens Make Health Happen Clubs by HealthCorps are fun, mentor-led clubs where you learn how to take care of your mind and body—and help others do the same. In the club, you’ll explore topics like nutrition, fitness, and mental health through interactive activities, games, and projects. With the help of a mentor, students come up with ideas to make their school a healthier place, like hosting events, starting challenges, or creating campaigns. It’s a chance to build leadership skills, work with friends, and make a real difference in your school and community.
